In 1990, the Japanese brand Honda first introduced the mid-engine sports coupe Honda NSX, which became the company's first car in this segment. It is noteworthy that the model turned out to be so popular and in demand that it held out on the assembly line for 15 years, after which it was discontinued.

In 2007, the management of the Honda auto concern officially announced the start of development of the second generation of the iconic NSX model, but due to the difficult economic situation caused by the global financial crisis in 2008, the development had to be frozen until 2010, when work on the creation of the car was resumed.

2012 turned out to be a landmark year for fans of Honda and the NSX model in particular - at the Detroit Motor Show, a concept version of the second generation of the NSX sports coupe was shown, albeit under the Acura brand, which is nothing more than a premium division of Honda. After that, it took Japanese engineers and designers several more years to bring the car to mind.

The debut of the serial version of the second generation of the NSX model took place at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, however, the manufacturer limited himself to only demonstrating the appearance, deciding to save the technical characteristics of the sports coupe for "dessert". And at the beginning of 2016, the company began official sales of the model, which made it possible to remove the veil of secrecy from the technical characteristics and other features of the sports coupe.

Exterior Acura NSX

It is worth paying tribute to the designers and the design studio of the Japanese brand, since the second generation NSX has absolutely nothing to do with the first generation of the model. Before putting the car on the conveyor, the car body was repeatedly tested in a wind tunnel, thanks to which the car received not only a similar layout, but also the appearance of a modern fighter.

In the arsenal of the car there are large air intakes, many special air ducts and fairings. Unfortunately, the company decided not to voice the drag indicator for oncoming air flows, limiting itself to the words that it is an order of magnitude better than that of competitors.


The front of the two-seater sports coupe sports a stylish LED head optics, similar to a pair of samurai swords, a massive front bumper and a graceful radiator grill, above which is located the Acura logo. The profile of the car stands out due to additional ventilation slots located on the sides of the body, large wheel arches, as well as original R19 wheel disks at the front and R20 at the rear.

The rear of the sports car attracts attention with four tailpipes of the exhaust system, built into the massive rear bumper. There are also additional air ducts, original LED side lights and a small spoiler.

The car is ready to boast of the following dimensions:

  • Length - 447 cm;
  • Width - 194 cm;
  • Height - 121.5 cm;
  • Wheelbase - 263 cm.


The exterior of the new Acura NSX is the pinnacle of design thought, where each individual body element has not only a visual, but also a technological component, thanks to which it is literally impossible to look away from the car. The main emphasis in the design of the car is made on angular and faceted forms, which adds aggression, sportiness and unbridledness to the car.

The new NSX has a two-seater cabin layout, which in turn has a very original appearance. The design of the front panel is as if borrowed from the spaceship of one of the cult Hollywood blockbusters. In front of the driver there is a sports multifunctional steering wheel, as well as a digital instrument panel that can change the color theme of the displayed image depending on the driving mode selected by the driver, of which there are four in the car - Quiet, Track, Sport, and Sport Plus.

The driver and passenger areas are separated by a massive central tunnel, at the head of which is the touchscreen display of the infotainment and multimedia system. Wherever you look - the center panel, dividing tunnel, door and seat cards, all upholstered in genuine high-quality leather.

As befits a premium car, all materials used and fittings are extremely high. Customers will be offered a wide range of interior colors.


Inside the car, there are two bucket seats, which are distinguished by a deep seating position and excellent sporty lateral support. Thanks to the wide adjustment settings for the seats and the steering wheel, a person of absolutely any build can get comfortable behind the wheel of a car. There is a space behind the seats that can be used to store small amounts of luggage. Unfortunately, the company does not say how much the trunk volume is, however, given the class and form factor of the car, it can be assumed that it does not exceed 200-250 liters.

From a technical point of view, the second generation Acura NSX is a unique and unlike any other sports car. The car uses a fully independent double wishbone suspension front and rear. Moreover, innovative, electronically controlled shock absorbers are responsible for comfort and handling, which can adjust the stiffness depending on the conditions and mode of travel.

The body of the first generation NSX was made of aluminum, while the second generation of the model was based on a spatial frame made using unique modern technologies, as well as aluminum, high-strength grades of steel and carbon fiber. The company proudly announces that the underbody panels are made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic and the body panels are made from special polyester composite materials that are lightweight and have a stiffness comparable to forged metal. Thanks to this, the weight of the car does not exceed 1630 kg, which is a very good indicator.

The sports coupe has a mid-engine layout, and as many as 4 engines act as a power unit. Two electric motors are located in the front near each front wheel, and behind the backs of the driver and passenger seats, a 3.5-liter gasoline engine and another electric motor are registered, the task of which is to rid the car of the so-called "turbo pit". The total power of all engines is about 550 hp.

The machine is aggregated by a 9-speed preselective "robot" with two clutches, which are supplemented by a torque converter, thanks to which the acceleration from 0 to 100 takes 3.1 seconds, and the maximum speed can reach 330 km / h. The company has not yet disclosed exact data on fuel consumption, however, given the presence of several electric motors, it should be in the range of 8-10 liters. Moreover, if necessary, the driver can activate the "Quiet" mode, which will allow driving exclusively on electric traction.

An unusual feature of the car is the presence of a special valve in the exhaust system of the sports car, due to which the driver can independently adjust the volume of its operation. In addition, the machine provides for the use of an all-wheel drive system with a unique function of distributing the available traction, while the thrust generated exclusively by electric motors is transmitted to the front axle.

Safety

Since the Acura NSX is an innovative and technologically advanced car, which, when created, they tried to equip with all the necessary passive and active safety systems. The basic equipment of the car offers traction control, anti-lock braking and exchange rate stabilization systems. In the event of an excessively abrupt start, the car has a Launch Control function, the task of which is to cope with wheel slip and provide a smoother and "even" start.

For braking the sports coupe, there are carbon-ceramic disc brakes with an active ventilation system, which prevents overheating and increases braking efficiency.


In addition, the NSX is equipped with a large number of electronic assistants that monitor blind spots, lane markings and road signs, as well as maintain a fixed speed and distance to vehicles in front.

Options and price of Acura NSX 2016

In terms of equipment and the available list of equipment, the Acura NSX is not inferior to any of its direct competitors, which include the Audi R8, Nissan GT-R, Porsche 911 Turbo and others, while being able to offer a more humane price tag.

In the basic equipment, the machine offers its owner the following set of equipment:

  • Multifunctional digital instrument panel with a large display and the ability to change the color scheme of the displayed information;
  • Driving mode selection system;
  • High-quality entertainment system from BOSE, one of the leading hi-fi speaker manufacturers in the world;
  • Electric parking brake;
  • ABS and VSA systems, as well as adaptive cruise control and EBD;
  • Dual-zone climate control;


The price of the basic version in the North American market will be about 150 thousand dollars (about 9.75 million rubles). In the European market, the car will be offered at a price of 130 thousand euros, while it was originally planned that the sports car will be presented in the Russian market, but after a while, due to insignificant sales of cars under the Acura brand, the company decided to leave the domestic market, which put cross on the official sales of the NSX model in the Russian Federation.
