New Peugeot 508 in Geneva

The Geneva Motor Show brings many new series products to dealerships every year. Some of them can only be prototypes, but most are production models. The exhibition did not pass by the French manufacturer, the most important novelty was the Peugeot 508. Initially, it was expected that the car will be made in the sedan form factor, but the engineers presented it as a 5-door liftback. The profile of the new Peugeot 508 is coupe-like, moreover, the designers have completely removed the window frames around the side windows, following the new products from Volkswagen.

The most expressive detail of the new Peugeot 508 liftback is considered to be the front LED optics, with very unusual LED running lights. The designers made DRL (running lights) in the form of two large vertical stripes, on the sides of the optics, which resemble scars or fangs and speak of the formidable style of the Peugeot 508. The rear LED feet will no less surprise; the designers combined them with a horizontal strip of glossy black color. the new Peugeot 508 is close to the previously known exhibition cars Peugeot Exalt, with a small addition of details from the crossovers 3008 and 5008. Most notable are the compact steering wheel, a digital instrument panel based on a 12.3 ″ color display, as well as a modern multimedia system with 10 ″ HD display and seven toggle switches under the main display. As in crossovers, the driver of the new Peugeot 508 is given a choice between 4 control modes: Normal, Comfort, Sport, Eco.

The body of the new Peugeot 508 turned out to be quite peculiar. The engineers used high-strength hot-stamped steel, the front fenders and hood are made of aluminum, but the trunk lid of the Peugeot 508 is made of thermoplastic. From many angles, it becomes clear that the engineers of the PSA Group alliance have also worked on the new sedan. The basis for the liftback was the EMP2 platform, with a multi-link suspension behind. More charged models and gasoline models will acquire adaptive shock absorbers with electronic control. As an option, the same shock absorbers can be installed on the diesel versions of the Peugeot 508.

In addition to the listed parts of the new Peugeot 508, the car will be equipped with a host of other comfort and assistance functions. Among the main details are the front seats with the function of electric drive and massage. The designers used Nappa leather and Alcantara as upholstery, a panoramic roof and a modern Focal sound system were added. Security systems can recognize road signs, keep the Peugeot 508 in the lane.

Added blind spot monitoring system, all-round visibility, adaptive cruise control and modern LED optics. The main highlight of the new Peugeot 508 will be the night vision system, based on infrared cameras, capable of recognizing objects at a distance of up to 250 meters, with the ability to display images on the central display. According to preliminary data, the start of the sale of the new liftback in Europe is scheduled for September 2018, the release is planned to be established in the city of Mulhouse (France).
