According to these data, it can be concluded that the electric car will be intended only for city driving, in conditions of free access to charging stations.
This model can be compared to the Japanese electric car Nissan Leaf, which has a range of 135 km on the American EPA cycle and 199 km on the European NEDC cycle. The electric car Chevrolet Bolt can also be compared, which, in turn, has a cruising range of 383 km in the American cycle, while its similar German model Opel Ampera - 500 km. In conclusion, the American electric car Tesla Model 3, according to preliminary data, will have cruising range of 345 km. Thus, it is clear how impractical the Clarity electric car will be for out-of-town trips.
The company's vice president, Steve Center, explained the savings in mileage by the fact that large, expensive batteries are usually used for a long range.
The company, in turn, aims to create low-cost, but compact electric vehicles. In addition, Honda Clarity retains its original parameters, namely, large dimensions with the presence of hydrogen cells and, accordingly, its low cost. The manufacturers are also hoping that the sales of the new Clarity will exceed the percentage of sales of the electric hatchback Fit EV. The latter model was not successful enough. According to the head of the company, the reason for the complaints from customers was not the power reserve, but the small dimensions of the electric car. Therefore, the company is optimistic about the production and sale of the Honda Clarity.
