From year to year, the Detroit Auto Show is the main arena for the presentation of huge pickups, and 2015 was no exception - it was this year that the Japanese automaker Nissan first demonstrated the second generation of the off-road "truck" Titan, designed for the North American market.

In comparison with its predecessor, the car has changed beyond recognition, having received not only a new appearance, increased dimensions and a more presentable and modern interior, but also a number of technical improvements.

With the help of the Nissan Titan, the manufacturer intends to compete with the bestsellers in the North American market such as the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado, as well as the GMC Sierra or Toyota Tundra. Looking ahead, let's pay tribute to the Japanese engineers and designers who managed to create a really powerful, brutal and high-torque pickup that can easily fulfill the role of a small truck.

Exterior Nissan Titan King Cab 2017

The Nissan Titan is marketed in three performance variations: Single Cab, King Cab and Crew Cab. Today in our review is the one-and-a-half version of the King Cab with the following dimensions:

  • Length - 5.803 m;
  • Width - 2.019 m;
  • Height - 1.922 m;
  • Distance between axles - 3.55 m;
  • Ground clearance height - 254 mm.

The car looks brutal and intimidating, which is a big merit of the impressive muzzle, represented by a huge rectangular false radiator grille, an impressive size two-tier head optics (optional LED) and a massive front bumper, in which there was a place for a pair of foglights and a small air intake.

In addition, the pickup boasts a huge bonnet, decorated with elegant embossings and special tow hooks located under the front bumper.

The profile of the Nissan Titan King Cab has a classic proportion for cars of this class, while I would like to highlight the presence of huge wheel arches, impressive sills and R17-20 rims. Separately, I would like to highlight the chrome nameplate located above the arches of the front wheels, in which the proud inscription "V8" flaunts.

Compared to the frontal part of the body, the stern looks less impressive, and it has vertical marker lights (optional LED), a huge tailgate and a neat bumper, with a cutout for the license plate located in the center.

The manufacturer offers five body colors to choose from for potential buyers: Magnetic Black, Pearl White, Deep Blue Pearl, Cayenne Red and Forged Copper, among which Forged Copper (copper) looks especially gorgeous. Moreover, the buyer has the right to choose one of several wheel designs that emphasize the full power of the car.

Interior of the new Nissan Titan King Cab 2017

Inside, the Nissan Titan King Cab looks no less impressive than the outside. Directly in front of the driver is a massive four-spoke steering wheel, behind which is a gear lever and an impressive instrument cluster, represented by a pair of analogue instruments and an LCD display of the on-board computer. The huge central dashboard accommodates a 7-inch touchscreen monitor of the multimedia complex and a laconic cabin climate control unit, and directly below them there is a block of auxiliary keys.

In general, the front dashboard looks more presentable and "muscular" than its predecessor. Moreover, the quality of the materials used has significantly increased - from now on, exceptionally solid materials dominate in the salon: genuine leather, soft plastic and high-quality fabric.

On paper, the one-and-a-half Nissan Titan King Cab has a five-seater saloon, but in practice everything is not so smooth. There are no complaints about the front seats - they are large, comfortable, with a lot of adjustments, heated, but with poorly expressed lateral support. Between the front seats is a giant armrest, inside of which there is a luggage box, which is practically equal to the spaciousness of the glove compartment.

The second row of the lorry is represented by a three-seater "bench", which in practice can only accommodate adolescents and children.

There is no need to talk about the volume of the trunk, since instead of it the car is equipped with an impressive cargo platform, ending with a huge tailgate. The carrying capacity of the trailer, depending on the type of modification, varies between 450-800 kg, but the maximum weight that a car can take for towing can reach 5 tons, which is almost twice as much as the weight of the car itself.

Specifications Titan King Cab 2017

Buyers are offered two engines to choose from:

  1. 5.6-liter petrol engine V8, capable of producing a maximum 390 "mares" and 544 Nm of torque available at 4000 rpm. It is paired with a modern 7-level automatic transmission, which provides acceleration from 0 to 100 in less than 8 seconds, as well as a top speed of 185 km / h. The average fuel consumption in the combined driving mode varies between 14-17 l / 100 km, which looks very good for a car of similar dimensions and weight.
  2. 5-liter turbodiesel V8, producing 310 "horses" and a dizzying 752 Nm of torque. A diesel engine is paired with a 6-level automatic transmission from Aisin. The dynamic characteristics of a pickup with this engine are only slightly inferior to a diesel engine: acceleration to hundreds in 8.5 seconds, maximum speed - 176 km / h. But the fuel consumption in the combined cycle varies from 10 to 15 l / 100 km.

Both engines are equipped with a 32-valve timing and can be aggregated with both front and all-wheel drive, which has the ability to lock the differential and 4 options for work.

The novelty is based on the improved "bogie" of its predecessor, and it is based on a spar frame made of high-strength steel grades. It is also worth noting that the pickup cab is attached to the frame with the help of special hydraulic supports, which made it possible to significantly increase the level of comfort in the cabin.

An independent double lever with hydraulic shock absorbers and transverse stabilizers is installed on the front axle, and a dependent suspension with a continuous-type axle, transverse stabilizers and leaf springs is installed on the rear axle. The rack and pinion control is supplemented by a hydraulic booster, and ventilated "pancakes" are responsible for braking, the help of which is provided by electronic assistants, of which there are plenty in the pickup.
